Embracing the occult can lead us astray. Think Reiki, astral-projection, or any new-age practice. These mystical doctrines lay principles in our heart that contradict the word of YHWH. Although they may seem harmless, one can unlawfully opens doors to spiritual principalities. This includes, opening the 3rd eye, using pendulums for divination and ALL strange teachings of the nations.1 Abandoning biblical principles to participate in these practices, leaves us vulnerable to demonic entities. While following a new trend, one can go from seeking truth, to alienating themselves from the life of God (Ep 4:18). Suddenly, the heart, eyes, and ears go unguarded. When these spiritual gates are neglected, demonic influence is sure to increase. In the end, acts of disobedience are sure to follow.
A Bitter Fruit
As believers, we are to seek God to show us the way toward spiritual maturity. Though if not pursued biblically, we can enter the path of the wicked. For instance, any revelation received through false doctrines, can cause us to forsake the law.2 It may not be obvious at first, but every occult ritual is a doorway to spiritual hosts of wickedness (Isa 8:19-20). If not plucked from our conscience, more doors are opened, corrupting the spirit (Lev 19:31; Prov 25:26). Eventually, the heart is turned away from God.3 Even one’s good intentions can get corrupted when we fail to honor his word. For instance, the simple desire to relieve stress resolved through occult practices, may lead to reiki, and then, crystal healing (Is 8:19-20). Biblically speaking, we should be taught by a spirit of wisdom in the knowledge of Elohim (Prov 4:5-14).
The Redeemer
Therefore, if we desire to know him or need real life solutions, we should pursue him (Ps 33:3; Jer 23:13). It is the Lord, our God, who will instruct and teach us in the way that we shall go…”.4 When there’s no revelation from YHWH. Whats happens? People walk as gentiles, “In vanity of mind, having their understanding darkened… (Ep 4:17-18, 6:13-18).” Even worse, a new generation emerges that trusts in their fleshly nature because they lack a sure foundation in Christ (1 Corin 3:10-11; 2 Tim 2:19). They are ignorant to the fact that as children of God, they are heirs of God.5
I caution you, don’t give your authority over to unclean spirits by engaging with the occult (Luke 10:19-20, Matt 10:1). If you’ve been led astray in an unconventional search for God. It’s NOT too late. Once you lay down worldly practices with a repentant heart, you experiences his grace.6 It is your gift from God. Through his grace, you are redeemed.7 Accept the new thing Yeshua is doing in your life and repent, disposing of any unclean fruit (Rom 8:28, 2 Corin 5:17).
