The Execution of Charlie Kirk: Why You Should Pay Attention

There is no ordinary way to follow Jesus (Yeshua).  Whether you consider yourself conservative or liberal, true followers of the gospel are commanded to be set apart (1 Pet 2).  Even when we don’t agree on politics, we should agree on biblical principles, living life worthy of the call. Which means, whether or not you agree with Charlie Kirk’s opinion, you should know him by his fruit.  He didn’t deserve to have his life taken away at the hands of some vigilante wanting to dim his light. Charlie belonged to someone. He was a believer of the word, husband, father, son, and beloved friend. Although you may not know Charlie Kirk personally (I don’t), being sympathetic to those who are suffering is the true nature of a believer (Col 3:2, Ep 5:1-2, 8-10).

A Rose By Any Other Name

The truth is, there are millions of Godly witnesses just like Charlie. People who are unwilling to compromise or apologize for holding disciples accountable to the word. His biblical stance proved a threat to modern day America. It’s clear that this public execution was not just about Charlie. The character of a nation was exposed. Mr Kirk condemned abortion and promoted life instead. He denounced same-sex marriage, criticized gender affirming care, and publicly supported monogamy. These biblical principles appeared to have polarized a nation.1 Yet, Mr. Kirk spoke the truth anyway. His televised execution feels like public mockery of the word (Joh 17:17, Heb 4:2).

His witness should be enough to convict our hearts. If we call ourselves disciples of the Yeshua, then God is the standard (Rom 12:2). Don’t be mistaken. The death witnessed around the world was a warning. No one can deny the visual threat to those who dare to speak for the sake of YHWH and live with conviction (Matt 16:25; 1 Pet 1:22-25). Pay attention as the tide continues to turn.

Take Heed

We are warned in the bible that “our war isn’t against flesh and blood, but of principalities, powers, and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ep 6:12).” We are told by the Apostles of a perilous time. A season when “all that shall live Godly will suffer persecution and some are even beheaded for their witness of Jesus and the word of God (2 Tim 3:12, Rev 20:4).” There shall be fighting, scarcity of food, betrayal, and false witnesses. These are the growing pains of persecution (Matt 24 and Luke 21). I wonder if you have discerned the times, putting on the whole armor of God (Ep 6:10-18).

While the televised execution of Mr. Kirks is tragic, he is one of many who suffered at the hands of extremists. This horrific deed was not just about rendering his silence (Rom 8:14). It revealed something much more sinister and begs the question, Do our leaders want to silence ALL biblical principles? The situation seems like the modern day story of King Herod. He beheaded John the Baptiste at a party. Yes, he only granted Salome’s request, but it was already something he contemplated in his heart. For once, Herod would be rid of John and the call to repent from sin.

This sounds a little too familiar. The truth is, people aren’t mad at Charlie Kirk. They have disdain for the word of which he bears witness (John 15:18-27). The word that highlights any disobedience and pride against God (2 Tim 4:3-4; Isa 5:20). People like him are the true answer to modern day Pharisees. The ones who create laws in their hearts. As believers, we are also called to be faithful disciples and let our light shine bright before men.
